KOMBO

HIDDEN CHARACTERS

This is part ‘B’ book of a 3 part series (named ‘Hidden characters’) is the type design for ‘Kombo’.

If somebody is writing a word, he or she pictures that shape of the type in their head and writes it on a piece of paper. The problem a dyslexic person has is that in his or her head there are multiple images, one put on top of the other. He or she scans the shapes of type and writes a combination of these images as one shape. That is why the handwriting is usually very unclear.

“...one
on top
of the
other...”

Kombo is a type design based on this fact. During writing a dyslexic person experiences a certain level of entanglement, because he or she is looking for the right shape of type in their head. Kombo is a type that displays this entanglement and shows in that way what a dyslexic person experiences.
