DESO

HIDDEN CHARACTERS

This is part ‘A’ book of a 3 part series (named ‘Hidden characters’) is the type design for ‘Deso’.

There are 200 words which give a dyslexic person trouble reading. Words like ‘the’, ‘a’, ‘if’, ‘about’, are words that cause one of the symptoms of dyslexia. These so called ‘disorientation words’ create a reading problem as they don’t refer to an actual act or object.

“...the
abstract
shape of
type...”

They get an abstract shape for dyslexic people. The only image that is left is that of meaningless type. So when a dyslexic person reads a sentence, he ends up with a number of images inbetween different blind spots.

Deso is a type design based on this fact and shows the abstract shape of type.
